During the conversation, the then 32-year-old made a bombshell revelation, stating that none of the royals desired to be King or Queen, but they would accept the responsibilities when the time came.
Harry emphasized the need for change in the monarchy after the eventual passing of his grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II, who passed away at the age of 96. He expressed the belief that the institution needed to evolve and adapt to modern times, considering the rapid advancements of social media and the fast-paced nature of the world.
“We want to ensure the longevity of the monarchy and are passionate about its values,” Harry reportedly conveyed to Ms. Levin, according to the DailyMail. “We recognize that both the British public and the world at large need institutions like this. However, it cannot continue in the same way it has under the Queen. There will be changes, and we must handle them correctly.”
Despite the acknowledgment of the necessity for change, Prince Harry indicated that no one within his family truly desired to ascend to the throne. He expressed his belief that they would fulfill their duties at the appropriate time but admitted to a lack of enthusiasm for the role of monarch.
“In the Royal Family, is there anyone who truly wants to be King or Queen? I don’t think so. Nevertheless, we will carry out our responsibilities when the time is right,” he stated.
Even back in June 2017, there were signs that Prince Harry wanted to carve his own path. The interview occurred just a year after his introduction to Meghan Markle, whom he would later marry in 2018. Two years after that, the couple made the decision to step back from their roles within the Royal Family and relocated to Montecito, a coastal community in Santa Barbara, California.
Prince Harry and Meghan’s departure marked a significant turning point in their lives, as they sought to build a new chapter outside of the traditional royal framework.
